Dive Master Intern Log: Entry 1

Diveocean

So it’s official, I’m going for my PADI Dive Master Certification. I spent Thurs-Sun with a great group of students from Scuba Works (my new home shop) and had an absolute blast. This was step 1 of n. to get my Cert.

Now, as I sit here and reflect back, I could kick myself for not taking any pictures. We spent two days at Blue Heron Bridge  My mentor in this process, Donna Askew, will eventually post a picture of the class on Facebook. When she does, I’ll try to remember to link to it here.

So what did I learn? Mainly to keep my big mouth shut. I joke…a lot. I find the jokes funny, heck, even Donna giggled at a few. then she had to instruct the class to ignore me because that was not correct information. See, these people are just learning to dive. They don’t know that what I’m saying is funny, they may think it’s true.

As we were practicing our ‘Giant Stride’, I told my students. “Now turn and give a ‘big ok’ to the boat, or they scratch your name off the roll and you have to find your own way home.”  I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY! 🙂

Donna was way too kind when she pulled me aside and explained this to me. Had I been her, I probably would have lost patience with me early on the first day. But I know now and I’m learning.

Oh and I learned that sunscreen is your friend. I mean the pasty white stuff. If you are going to be out in the water for 3-4 hours at a stretch, you can’t have enough sunscreen.

I love Diving. I think I’m going to like being a Dive Master. 🙂

Cheers!
